01Why it exists
Where being wrong gets expensive
Software forgives: you run it, it breaks, you change a line, you run it again, and the cost of being wrong is a few seconds. A lathe doesn't work that way. A wrong offset is a scrapped part, a broken tool, or a crash that takes the spindle with it. You are correct before you press cycle start, or you find out what being wrong costs.
The floor is HAAS ST25 and Hwacheon turning centres on FANUC 0i-F controls. The simulator below runs the same dialect against a bar of stock before the program ever meets steel.
02Parts list
- The real dialectX as a diameter, U/W incremental, G0/G1/G2/G3 with R or I/K, G96 surface speed capped by G50, G98/G99 feeds, tool calls and dwell.
- Canned cyclesFANUC's two-block G71 roughing (depth, retract, finishing allowance) and G70 finishing over the same N-numbered contour.
- It cuts the barThe stock is cut as the program runs, so you see the part you'll get, not just lines.
- It stops like a machineA rapid into material, feeding with the spindle stopped, no F word, or the tool reaching the chuck: it halts and names the line.
- Cycle timeEstimated from the feeds, surface speed and rapids before you've spent any of it.
- Single blockStep through one line at a time, with the readout showing X, Z, feed, spindle and tool.
03Construction
The floor
The programs: turning programs for HAAS ST25 and Hwacheon, revision on revision; each rev is a part that came off the machine and got measured. Setup sheets: which tool in which station, what offset, what order. The manuals: FANUC Series 0i-F, the full set, because some alarms only the parameter manual explains.
04Tolerances
A teaching simulator, not CAM verification: one point-tip tool, no nose-radius compensation, no tool geometry or holder collisions, a simplified G71 for contours that rise steadily toward the chuck. Measure it; don't assume it.
what it is not, said plainly
05Inscription
In spec, or scrap. The part does not care what the program intended.
